Duo Maya Belzitzman & Matan Ephrat
Maya Belzitzman – cellist, singer, composer, orchestrator and music producer – and Matan Ephrat – drummer, percussionist and producer – partners in life and in creation, collaborating since 2012. Maya grew up in the classical world, as a cellist in Hillel Tzuri's class, and studied At the Jerusalem Academy of Music, before turning to the world of popular music and playing with some the best musicians in Israel. Matan, born in Kibbutz Mizra, began his career as a rock drummer and played with many top Israeli pop singers. Over the years, the duo has performed at numerous festivals in Israel and around the world, including in Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Slovakia, France, and more, and accompanied Branford Marsalis at the Nairobi Jazz Festival, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma in a concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York city. Their music is based on original material, new instrumental compositions and cover versions that bring a new and original interpretation to the songs they perform in Hebrew, English, French and Spanish, modern melodies to biblical texts and more. Maya and Matan write music for documentary films and have released 10 albums together, including the album INDOORS, which was recorded entirely in their home in Jaffa during the Corona epidemic.
